At least seven people are feared to have been killed after unidentified gunmen attacked Okele-Ejule in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Saturday.

Residents report higher death toll
Community members said the number of fatalities could be higher, claiming that another body was recovered from a nearby bush on Sunday morning.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, with residents giving differing accounts of what may have triggered the killings.
While some sources alleged that some of the victims had criminal records, others suggested the attack could have been politically motivated.
Another community source claimed some of those killed had been on the radar of the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged involvement in kidnapping and related crimes.

Police confirm recovery of three bodies
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat.
According to the statement, police received a report at about 4:35 p.m. on Saturday that three male corpses had been discovered in a bush along the Ochadamu–Umomi Road in Ofu Local Government Area.
Police said officers from the Ofu Division visited the scene and recovered the bodies, which had suspected gunshot injuries.
The corpses were evacuated to the Grimard Hospital Mortuary in Anyigba for preservation and autopsy, while coroner’s procedures have commenced.

Police identified the deceased as:
Ibrahim Lawal, 30
Ayuba Salisu, 28
Mudi Magi, 42
According to the command, all three victims were from Ejule in Ofu Local Government Area.
The police added that preliminary investigations indicated the victims were attacked in Ejule before their bodies were dumped along the Ochadamu–Umomi Road.
