WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results
WAEC announced the release of the 2026 WASSCE results for school candidates.
Out of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat the examination, 1,200,514 candidates (61.54%) obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC Withholds 167,486 Results Over Malpractice
The examination body withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59% of those who wrote the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE, over alleged examination malpractice.
WAEC noted that the figure represents an improvement compared to the 9.7% recorded in 2025, while blaming the widespread use of mobile phones in examination halls and organised cheating in some schools.
Osun Government to Sue EFCC Over Frozen Accounts
The Osun State Government has announced plans to institute legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the anti-graft agency reportedly froze the state’s bank accounts.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, said the EFCC issued a “Post No Debit” directive to First Bank, where the state’s accounts are domiciled.
He argued that the action could disrupt government activities and insisted Governor Ademola Adeleke was not using state funds for his re-election campaign.
176 Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom in Kwara
The Kwara State Government confirmed that 176 residents abducted during the February 3, 2026 terrorist attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom.
The development brought an end to nearly six months of uncertainty for the victims and their families after months of rescue efforts and negotiations.
Nigerian Army Declares ISWAP Leaders Wanted
The Nigerian Army has declared two senior leaders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) wanted following intelligence gathered during recent military operations in the Lake Chad region.
The wanted terrorists are identified as Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa (Wali), described as the group’s governor, and his deputy, Amirul Jaish Muhammad Jidda.
