Zenith Bank customers have been advised to immediately review their account balances and transaction histories following the bank’s recent disclosure of a data breach involving unauthorized access to customer information.
The President of the Bank Consumers Association of Nigeria (BCAN), Dr. Uju Ogunbunka, gave the advice in an interview on Wednesday, urging customers not to take the incident lightly.
His comments come after Zenith Bank confirmed that hackers had gained unauthorized access to certain customer data.
According to Ogunbunka, customers should promptly verify that their deposits remain intact and report any suspicious activity without delay.
“What bank customers should naturally do is to log into the bank’s system and check what is happening,” he said.
He advised customers to contact their account officers or visit the nearest Zenith Bank branch for clarification if they notice any unusual activity.
“Cross-check your account to know if your deposit is intact. You can also visit the bank and ask them to provide your account balance so that you have an idea whether your own portion of the system was compromised.
“Check your account. You will know where you stopped before and where you are now, and see whether there has been any intervention, interruption or encumbrance on the account,” Ogunbunka added.
The BCAN president also called on banks across Nigeria to strengthen their cybersecurity infrastructure to better protect customer information and reduce the risk of future cyberattacks.
He stressed that proactive security measures are essential as financial institutions continue to face growing cyber threats….See more
