The annual month-long event collects new and unused socks for homeless shelters and the CU Schools Foundation.

They have labeled donation boxes across Champaign, Urbana, Savoy and Decatur.

Organizers said it’s important to make sure all community members are ready going into the colder months. They’ve collected about 5,200 pairs so far.

“Our friends without an address do not have access to laundry,” Community Outreach Director Marti Pearson said. “They can’t put on new socks all the time because they have to carry it with them.”

The church collected about 13,000 pairs last year. This year, they’ve increased their goal to 15,000.

“We just want to give them to everybody we possibly can,” Pearson said.

Donations are going on until the end of the month. The church just added a new collection box at Harvest Market in Champaign. A full list of their in-person drop-off locations and a link to their Amazon wish list can be found here.
