The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, around 4 am, when Modupe walked into an uncompleted building near the church where she had attended the vigil.

Modupe, a 500 level student of the Department of Agronomy and the department’s president, left a suicide note in her bag before taking her own life.

The Public Relations Officer of the student union, Olaogbebikan Noble, expressed the union’s dissatisfaction and agony over the incident in a statement.

The statement read, “We express in strong terms our dissatisfaction and agony with respect to the death of one of our students, Ayandare Modupe.

A 500 level student of the Department of Agronomy (Agronomy Departmental President). According to report, the deceased was said to have committed suicide at the early hour of today around 4 am after they finished vigil in her church.”

The law enforcement agency has been informed, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Modupe’s tragic death.

The police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that a suicide note was found in Modupe’s bag.

In a separate statement, the Department of Agronomy expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of their president. The statement read, “It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of a tragic event that has deeply affected our community.

We have lost one of our own, Comrade Modesty, who served as the President of the Department of Agronomy. Her passing, by suicide at Onireason Street’s permanent site, is a profound loss to us all.”

The university community is encouraged to support one another during this difficult time, and counseling services are being offered to students.

The police investigation aims to unravel the circumstances that led to this tragic incident and provide answers to the grieving community.
