The National Executive Committee of the United States chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has written the National Working Committee (NWC) to investigate the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.

In the petition dated October 21, titled: “Petition Against Sen Ajibola Bashiru For Anti-Party Activities,” and addressed through the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC in the USA regretted and described as unfortunate how Sen Ajibola Bashiru would be supporting fraud by having clandestine meetings with impostors in the United States and ignoring members and leaders of the authentic APC-USA Chapter despite all efforts to reach him.

According to the party leadership, “Sometime last year, Mr. Tunde Doherty who resides in UK and a member of APC-UK Chapter, recruited one Tai Balofin to start calling and parading himself as the National Chairman of APC-USA. Doherty later called one of the leaders of APC-USA, Prince Henry Adesanya that he was the one that recruited Balofin to start calling and parading himself APC-USA National Chairman to replicate in APC-USA the kind of divisions in APC-UK.

“Mr. Doherty told Prince Adesanya that he recruited Tai Balofin to do this hatchet job to punish Professor Adesegun Labinjo, the National Chairman of APC-USA and Honorable Judge Dele Alade, APC-USA BOT/NAC Chairman for reasons only known to him. Mr. Doherty boasted to Prince Adesanya that he wanted Professor Labinjo and Judge Alade to experience what a division in a Chapter looks like hence his decision to recruit Balofin to create an artificial division in APC-USA,” the party claimed in the petition.

The petition which was signed by Prof Adesegun Labinjo, National Chairman, APC-USA; Mr. Ademola Feyi Tijani, National Secretary; Chief Emeka Molokwu, Deputy National Chairman South, APC-USA; Mr. Abdullahi Gambo, Deputy National Chairman North, APC-USA; Dr. Ismaila Maigyara, National Publicity Secretary APC-USA and Hon Judge Dele Alade, Chairman BOT/NAC, APC-USA, was copied to President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, Otunba Henry Ajomale and All members of APC National Working Committee.

The party noted that Sen Bashiru’s open support for those people of questionable characters was very embarrassing, adding that “it is a disservice to those members who have, with integrity, discipline and dignity, formed and sustained APC-USA with their resources from 2013 to date.”

“We believe that there must be consistency and transparency for our party and our country to achieve developmental objectives,” the petition noted. “There are allegations flying around as to the reason Sen Bashiru is supporting and promoting this fraud but we demand that the NWC investigate this fraud and investigate the involvement of Sen Bashiru and any other person or persons in the National Secretariat in Abuja that may be involved in this fraud and deceit.

“For avoidance of any doubt, Tai Balofin was never a member of APC-USA. Tai Balofin is a person of questionable character who all his life was a PDP man. He is also known for forming bogus support groups to purportedly support Nigerian presidential candidates during election seasons to deceive unsuspecting Nigerian politicians for his pecuniary interest. He was never a member of APC-USA even for a single day.”

Giving historical backgrounds of the party’s USA chapter, they noted that the current officers of the party were duly elected at the Elective National Convention of APC-USA on November 5, 2022.

Reeling out how the APC-USA has been supporting the party financially and otherwise, they appealed to the NWC to investigate the activities and conduct of Sen Bashiru, insisting that they are ready to help in their investigation. “We cannot, as a party or as a nation, continue to reward bad behaviours.

“We also request that Your Excellency stops Dr. Argungu and Sen Bashiru from organizing a kangaroo congress in USA with these impostors and people of questionable characters to save our party and our foremost party leaders from embarrassment that this will surely cause them and the party.

“Failure of the NWC to stop the purported Congress and investigate Sen. Bashiru for anti-party activities by orchestrating and promoting artificial division in APC-USA using Tai Balofin who was never a member of the Chapter, will give us no other option than to pursue measures that we may deem fit to protect the interests of the genuine members of APC-USA and our respected APC leaders in Nigeria.”
