The Ondo State High Court in Akure has nullified the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) established by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration, deeming their creation unconstitutional and illegal.
In his ruling, Presiding Judge Justice A.O. Adebusuoye stated that the LCDAs were not established in accordance with the law, rendering their existence invalid.
The operations of the caretaker committees appointed by the late governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, had been put on hold due to a court injunction arising from a lawsuit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, which successfully challenged the legitimacy of the committees
In February, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced that his administration will establish transition committees for the 18 local government areas and 33 local council development areas in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
He emphasised that the creation of LCDAs is a legacy of the late former Governor Akeredolu and will be preserved.
