Tragedy struck in Ita- Ogbolu, the headquarters of Akure North local government area of Ondo State, as a 60- year- old man, Ige Oyinleye, was burnt to death inside his room. The deceased, who had been suffering from stroke for the past two years, met his untimely death in the middle of the night when a candle placed beside his bed fell on the bedsheet and ignited a fire that consumed the entire room.
According to sources, Oyinleye had relocated to his hometown of Ita- Ogbolu from Akure, where he lived with his family, due to his health condition. His wife, Funke, and their six children had remained in Akure, with Funke visiting him daily to bring food and care for him. ..Read Full Article

On the fateful night, Funke had placed a candle beside Oyinleye’ s bed before leaving for Akure, but forgot to extinguish it. The candle fell on the bedsheet, causing a fire that quickly spread throughout the room. Oyinleye, who was unable to move due to his stroke, was trapped inside the room and unable to escape.
Neighbors, including Bayo Isiaka, rushed to the scene when they saw smoke coming from the room. Although they were able to save the building from burning completely, Oyinleye had already succumbed to the flames.
Isiaka described the scene as ” horrific” and stated that Oyinleye’ s body was burnt beyond recognition. ” We tried to save him, but it was too late. The fire had already consumed him, ” he said.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wole Ogodo, confirmed that the incident had occurred but stated that he had not been fully briefed on the details.
