Dalijan made this revelation during a meeting with Thomas Parker, the officer in charge of the Counterterrorism Unit at the United Nations Office On Drugs and Crime (UNODC), held at the command headquarters in Gusau, the state capital.
While withholding the identities of the individuals involved, the CP urged the UN to aid in the establishment of a forensic laboratory within the state. This laboratory, he emphasized, would alleviate the logistical challenge of conducting forensic analyses in distant locations like Lagos.
Dalijan further urged Parker to emulate the UN’s successful initiatives in Maiduguri by seeking assistance in training, investigation techniques, and the establishment of forensic laboratories in Zamfara. These measures, he emphasized, would expedite the investigation and prosecution of suspected criminals.
In response, Parker stated that their presence in Zamfara was prompted by an appeal from Governor Dauda Lawal to the UN for assistance in addressing the state’s security challenges. Parker expressed the UN’s readiness to conduct an assessment of the security situation in Zamfara to better understand the underlying causes and challenges, with the aim of providing appropriate assistance to mitigate the threats.
