The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of implementing ” extreme right policies”. The union, however, said it has not decided to embark on a nationwide strike action amid the hike in fuel price.
NLC stated this through its official spokesperson, Benson Upah, who spoke on Wednesday, September 4, in an interview on Arise News.

” Well, we have not said we are going on strike. We said the appropriate organs of the congress will meet to take appropriate decisions, and those decisions will be made public. So, I would want you to be patient to see if a strike will be one of them. ”
He added: ” But let’ s assume a strike is an option, our strike is the least harmful, as effective as a strike can be. Our strikes are essential to wake the government up and point the right direction. ”
Earlier, the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, had on Tuesday, while reacting to the latest increase in price of Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol said President Bola Tinubu deceived them during the negotiation.
The labour leader specifically said Tinubu told both the NLC and TUC leaderships during the negotiation to pick either N250, 000 and increase in price of fuel or accept N70, 000 and allow the price of fuel remain the same.
Ajaero, however said the Congress felt a deep sense of betrayal by the increase in the pump price of petrol.
” We opted for the latter because we could not bring ourselves to accept further punishment on Nigerians.
” But here we are, barely one month after and with the government yet to commence payment of the new national minimum wage, confronted by a reality we cannot explain. It is both traumatic and nightmarish.
” Yet, when we told the government that its approach to resolving the fuel subsidy contradictions was patently faulty and would not last, its front- row cheerleaders sneered at us, saying we did not understand basic economics.
