This, according to Malam Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd, will be in line with the drive to bring CNG closer to Nigerians
Kyari said this on Thursday, during the simultaneous commissioning of 12 CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos by Mr Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas).
“There is simply no way to turn back on delivering CNG for all Nigerians. It is the right thing to do. Is it late? Yes, but we will make progress.
“We will cover the gap in order to ensure that the volatility we see with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) does not apply to gas,” Kyari said.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for providing the needed support to drive domestic gas utilisation aimed at delivering cleaner and cheaper source of energy to Nigerians.
In his remarks, the Managing Director, NNPC Retail Limited, Mr Huub Stokman said the NNPC Retail planned to set up over 100 CNG sites, including 16 NNPC Gas Marketing and NIPCO Gas JV sites in the next one year.
“CNG provides Nigeria with affordable alternatives to existing available fuel products. It will be about 40 per cent cheaper than petrol in Nigeria and with continued investments, it will become a significant part of our energy mix,” Stokman added.
The Chairman of the NNPC Board of Directors, Chief Pius Akinyelure, said increased CNG adoption would foster economic benefits by reducing fuel costs for consumers and businesses alike.
The NNPC Ltd. has taken the lead in the deployment of Auto-CNG Stations across Nigeria sequel to the removal of fuel subsidy and the declaration of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiatives.
Already, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited, a subsidiary of NNPC Limited, in partnership with NIPCO Gas Limited has developed an Auto-CNG rollout plan for construction of 35 CNG stations across the country. ...Click Here To Continue Reading>>

On July 5, 2024 around 11:00 hours, while on patrol along the Great East road, Police officers intercepted a Rosa Bus bearing registration number ACH 3034 which had 45 passengers on board and driven by a 32-year-old man identified as Takky Changuke of Chawama compound.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects were being driven to Parliament Building area by the Socialist Party in order to protest.
Among the suspects, two are aged 14 and 16. They were severely warned and later released at the Police Station.
Further investigations indicate that one of the suspects, identified as Bornwell Maambo, 26, alleged to be a Socialist Party youth mobiliser, went round Chawama compound and managed to mobilise the youths.
It is alleged that he promised them money after a successful one hour protest at Parliament. It is further alleged that Mr. Maambo was acting on instructions from Stanley Mubasa, a Socialist Party National Youth Spokesperson.
Police officers who searched the bus found empty packs and bottles of beer.
The 43 suspects are also being interrogated for various offences committed in Chawama Compound and the surrounding areas. Investigations have intensified.
Meanwhile, the driver of the bus is yet to be charged for driving a motor vehicle with expired fitness, road tax and identity certificates.
He is also facing charges of driving a motor vehicle with exceeding number of passengers as well as driving a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition. The vehicle has defective headlamps and indicators.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, in a judgment delivered on Friday, held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the property, located in deferent parts of the country, were acquired illegally.
According to Justice Abdulmalik, the applicant effectively discharged its responsibility, under the law, to establish that the property were acquired with proceeds of crime.
The judge also held that the “various individuals, who responded to an earlier interim forfeiture order, requiring interested parties to show cause why the properties should not be permanently forfeited, failed to establish their ownership of the affected properties with credible evidence.”
Out of the 23 property listed in the schedule, three of them were left out, which include Flat 42C, SMC Quarters, Unguwan Dosa, Kaduna; Plot 18, Road F, on TPO 462B C of O Kd5469 and Plot of C of O Bo/426 Beacon B5086, B5087, B5105, B5104, B5099 Cadastral Zone B05 Utako.
It was reported that Maina’s wife, Laila, who claimed to be a citizen of the United States, and some of his relatives and associates, including Uwani Usman, Alhaji Aminu Yakubu Wambai, Haruna Mu’azu Musa and Aliyu Abdullahi, had claimed ownership of the 23 property.
The anti-graft agency had earlier obtained an order of interim forfeiture of 23 property linked to Maina, currently on eight-year jail term for pension fraud to the tune of N2 billion.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Abdulmalik agreed with lawyer to the EFCC, Farouk Abdullah, that those who claimed to owned the property failed to effectively establish the alleged ownership by producing credible evidence.
She said: “It is trite in law that civil cases in non-conviction forfeiture are hinged on the preponderance of evidence.
“Again, I hold that the respondents have failed woefully in tilting the scale of evidential weight in their favour.
“In all, sequel to the facts and documentary detailed evidence relied on by the applicant (the EFCC) in support of this application for final forfeiture, I do hold that the evidential burden of proof indeed shifted to the claimants to establish by way of cogent documentary evidence, the sequential trail of the genesis of their finances leading to the buildup as well as the the acquisition of the aforementioned properties subject of interim forfeiture.
“In view of this grave omission on the part of the claimants (Maina, his wife and his associates) to show good and credible cause on the history of their legitimate earnings, I hereby find merit in applicant’s application for final forfeiture of properties Nos: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22 and 23 set out in schedule one, attached to the order of interim forfeiture, save properties No: 3, 14 and 20. I so order.”
The affected properties are located in Abuja, Nasarawa, State Kaduna State and Kano State.
They include “Plot No: 965 Gwarimpa 1 District, Cadastral Zone: CO2, covered by C of O No: 1afew-fe28z-63a5r-e36eu-10.
“Duplex located at No: 16 A Katuru Road, Kaduna.

Several properties, including houses, cars and other valuables were destroyed by the disturbing disaster.
DAILY POST recalls that on June 24, the popular Trademore Estate, Abuja, was submerged following a sustained torrential rainfall that led to the death of two residents.
Apart from many houses almost completely destroyed, the flood which overflowed the estate canal, also swept away several cars.
In Yobe State alone, about 30 communities were destroyed on July 1st when heavy downpour was experienced in the area, leading to the death of about nine persons.
The State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, while confirming the ugly incident, revealed that over 10,845 individuals across 12 LGAs of Yunusari, Nguru, Nangere, Gujba, Damaturu, Fika, Bade, Bursari, Yusufari, Geidam, Machina and Karasuwa were affected by the floodings.
On Wednesday, movements were restricted while economic activities were crippled in Lagos State due to the persistent rainfall that caused unexpected flooding in many parts of the state.
It was more worrisome in some residential areas in Ibeju-Lekki and other strategic locations where thousands of residents were unfortunately displaced.
DAILY POST gathered that some of the worst affected areas included Epe, Eredo, Bogije, Labora, Abijon, Sangotedo, Awoyaya and Ibeju-Lekki.
A primary six pupil was reportedly swept away by the flood in the Ikosi-Ketu area of Lagos.
Also, seven occupants, including a one-year-old baby girl, were rescued alive from a collapsed two-storey building at the Mushin area of the state, following the heavy downpour.
Similarly, the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday confirmed that a yet-to-be-identified 61-year-old man lost his life after being electrocuted during the flood incident.
Nigerians knock federal and state governments over failure to be proactive
The recurring cases of flooding in the country have raised concerns among stakeholders who lamented that the Federal and the state governments failed to be proactive in tackling the menace.
DAILY POST recalls that in 2022, over 662 Nigerians lost their lives to flood across the country.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, 662 people were killed, while 2,430,445 others were displaced.
About 3,174 people also suffered various degrees of injuries during the flood disaster.
In 2023, the National Emergency Management Agency said over 45 Nigerians died, while 171,545 persons were displaced as a result of widespread flooding experienced across the country.
DAILY POST reports that despite the warnings and previous cases recorded, Nigeria was still cut up unprepared in 2024.
Reacting to the Wednesday incident in Lagos State, a former governorship candidate in the state, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, said the Lagos State Government has not been proactive on flood management.
In a television interview monitored by DAILY POST, the Labour Party chieftain said, “What is more painful to me is that I see a government that is in your face and very active when it comes to demolition but you have this kind of thing (flood) you don’t see any emergency response or protocol.
“We are not seeing men on the ground. We are not seeing intelligence being given out early: ‘avoid these routes’. There were no diversions.
“I don’t feel a sense of ‘I told you so’. Anybody who loves Lagos well enough and has looked at the history of Lagos would see these things way before they happen”.
Similarly, Emmanuel Onwubiko, the Head, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, told DAILY POST on Saturday that it is not enough for the government to alert Nigerians of imminent danger of flooding, urging both the Federal and the state governments to take proactive actions.
He said, “Environmental issues like flooding are things that are even beyond the government. The only thing is that the government needs to be ready for remediation and rescue if it happens eventually.
“The government should be able to evacuate people from the flood-prone areas. Telling Nigerians that there is going to be flooding in 31 states is not enough.
“Sometimes the government needs to force these residents to move out of the danger areas. Some people may not want to leave willingly because it is their ancestral home.
“The Nigerian government should provide ecological funds that will resettle victims of flooding in the country.
“When these flood-prone areas are identified, the government is expected to inform the residents of the danger of staying back especially during the season of heavy rainfall.
“The state government should build camps where they can possibly relocate the affected people, not allowing people to be stranded when it happens”.
Poor urban planning, deforestation, others responsible for flooding in Nigeria – Expert
An environmentalist, Dr Gabriel Ajeh told DAILY POST on Saturday that poor urban planning and inadequate infrastructure development were the major causes of flooding in Nigeria.
According to him, “as most cities continue to expand, encroachment of settlements into flood-prone areas have also continued among citizens, leading to flood disaster.
“The urbanization in many parts of the country is very poor. There are places even in Abuja that people should not be allowed to reside.
“Unfortunately, you see these places being occupied by people despite knowing that floods usually occur in those places.
“For example, the issue of Trademore Estate in the FCT is not new. Every year we hear about people dying in the area due to flooding, yet people are allowed to continue living there.
“Another issue we must consider, especially as we battle climate change, is deforestation and environmental degradation.
“This has significantly reduced the natural flood protection that is usually provided by forests, wetlands, and mangroves, thereby heightening the risk of floods in Nigerian communities.
“We need to understand that the degradation of natural ecosystems contributes to soil erosion, which can worsen flooding by increasing sedimentation in rivers.”
FG places 18 states on red alert
Tension was heightened on Thursday when the federal government placed at least 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on red alert over possible severe flooding expected from the end of July 2024.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, who raised the alarm while addressing reporters in Abuja, said Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Rivers and Taraba, as well as the FCT may be adversely affected in the coming days.
According to the Minister, from the end of July, the country might start experiencing river flooding, which might be more devastating than the current situation.

Before his appointment, Obla was a lawyer in A.A. Malami’s office and a member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). After the APC’s success in the 2015 presidential election, Malami, then appointed as Minister of Justice, nominated Obla as a Special Adviser on matters of prosecution. Obla continued in this role until August 2017, when Acting President Yemi Osinbajo appointed him as chairman of the Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Federal Government Property.
This panel was meant to enhance the administration’s anti-corruption initiatives, based on the Recovery of Public Property Act of 1984. However, Obla soon overstepped his mandate, engaging in activities beyond the panel’s authority. He created an extensive structure for the panel, involving personnel from the police and setting up offices similar to the EFCC, including a detention cell. Obla even printed letterheads associating the panel directly with the presidency without approval.
The Vice President’s office repeatedly cautioned Obla about his actions through several letters, which he disregarded. Reports highlighted his procedural excesses and his establishment of a quasi-independent operation that bypassed established protocols and authorities. For example, Premium Times reported that as early as two months into its establishment, the panel had derailed, prompting a cautionary letter from Ade Ipaye, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, on October 20, 2017. The letter instructed Obla to cease activities until further notice.
Despite warnings, Obla continued to operate independently. This led to further directives from the Vice President’s office, including removing “Presidency” from the panel’s letterhead and adhering strictly to its statutory mandate. Obla responded superficially but did not change his actions.
Complaints against Obla accumulated, highlighting issues of unauthorized activities and personal vendettas. Allegations included illegal raids and unrecorded looting of valuables, notably from General Martin Agwai’s residence. These led to his suspension in January 2019, pending an investigation by the ICPC.
Obla’s tenure was marred by his disregard for directives and statutory mandates. His actions were not just procedural violations but also involved using the panel for personal and political gains. Despite his claims of significant recoveries, no records supported these. The Appeal Court ruled against the panel’s prosecutorial powers in the case of TIJJANI MUSA TUMSAH V. FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, emphasizing that the panel’s duty was to submit reports to the President.
Obla’s record stands in stark contrast to other agencies like the EFCC and ICPC, which made substantial recoveries and secured high-profile convictions under the Buhari administration. Gillis-Harry disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Daily Post on Saturday, reacting to the re-emergence of fuel queues in Nigeria.
Daily Post reports that fuel queues have resurfaced in the nation’s capital and neighboring Nasarawa, as well as other states, as motorists scramble for the product.
For instance, the NNPCL retail filling station along Kubwa Expressway had massive queues on Friday, similar to Ranoil in Gwarimpa. Meanwhile, the majority of filling stations along the Kubwa Expressway, Lugbe, and Airport Road axis were without fuel on Saturday morning, DAILY POST gathered.
Speaking on the development, Gillis-Harry lamented that he visited numerous filling stations but could not find fuel.
According to him, fuel marketers cannot fix prices since they are not importing the product; rather, they sell according to the amount they buy. He stressed that the reason for the fuel queues and scarcity is because PETROAN members and marketers do not have the product.
“Yesterday (Friday), I went to over fifteen filling stations in Abuja, including NNPCL retail outlets, but there is no product. If they say they increase prices, it is their own thing. You sell according to how much you buy the product.
“We don’t have the product, that is the reason for the scarcity. We cannot fix a price because we don’t import the product; it is NNPCL that is the sole importer.
When asked if the planned commencement of fuel supply by Dangote refinery in mid-July 2024 could be blamed for the scarcity, he said, “Dangote refinery has not brought in any fuel, even Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), we are struggling to have it. What we are saying is that Dangote is facing the herculean challenge of meeting the deadline. We are proud of having a refinery of 650,000 barrels per day in Nigeria.
“Meanwhile, NNPCL cannot say because the Dangote refinery fuel supply is coming on board, they will stop its import. Nigerians depend on PMS daily. Dangote has not produced a liter of PMS.
“The issue is that there is a supply challenge with NNPCL. NNPCL has just a few filling stations. PETROAN and other stakeholders have several across the country. It is critical to ensure that all major stakeholders are aware of the things happening in the sector to avoid situations like this.
“We should ask NNPCL to up their game to halt the supply challenge,” he told DAILY POST.
When DAILY POST called the spokesperson of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, he didn’t take the call nor reply to the text.
The National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Maigandi, told DAILY POST to call him by noon on Saturday regarding the matter.
The development comes as the National Bureau of Statistics, in its latest Petrol Price Watch, reported that the average price of the product per liter rose to N769.62 in May 2024.
Recall that in June of last year, the fuel subsidy removal was announced, which led pump prices to increase to around N700 per liter from N238.11.

The singer had prayed to the court for “an order granting joint custody of their daughter, Miss Imade Adeleke. In the alternative, the singer prayed to the court for “an order granting to the applicant unfettered and unrestricted access to Miss Imade.”
Earlier, details of the counter affidavit filed by Sophia in response to the Originating Motions filed by the singer emerged online.
In a 100-paragraph counter-affidavit to Applicant’s Originating Motion, Sophia Momodu stated that their daughter “is a minor (9 years old) and as her mother, she has stayed with me all her life and I have been responsible for her welfare, upkeep, and well-being.”
Giving other reasons, why custody should not be granted to the Davido, Sophia stated that ”the fact that the applicant lost his son in his house in rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the custody of the Applicant.”
Reacting in a post on his Instagram story, Davido said: “You constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point you can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives.
“Imade will grow up to see that I fought for her. As for now, you can have her.
“P.S.: She won’t be a child forever. Enjoy Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you!”
