President Tinubu who was represented by Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu admitted that the reality of the current situation is that it is challenging to use popular parlance that the cost of living is still high, and the people need help to earn a living.

He advised the state governors to join the Federal Government and intensify their efforts so that Nigerians can receive the much-needed help they need to withstand this moment.

“The present government needs support from our people in the future. We need to maintain peace, not disruptive actions, and activities that can only set us back.”

He thereby appealed to those genuine protesters involved in the recent protest and who are still threatening to launch another protest to desist.

“Nothing tangible can be achieved in an atmosphere of protest that will ostensibly result in violence, arson, and looting of public and private property. A destructive protest does not augur well for anyone—not for you and me, the government, or the protesters themselves.

“The genuine protesters will do well organising themselves and coming forward for dialogue with the government,” he said.

Adewale Adeoye, Chairman of the occasion, in his address said that the summit is coming at a very important epoch in Nigerian history, that the country faces very difficult and unpredictable future, no matter the way one look at it.

“We must be honest with ourselves that the three main indices of human development are threatened. Food, human and environmental security, and leadership with good conscience that brings hope to our long-suffering people.”

He said that it has come to a time that millions of Nigerians no longer have access to good food which is tied to poverty, deprivation, poor health, depression, hunger, and associated human misery.

Adeoye noted that Nigeria cannot continue to go on in this way and that the nation must address the hydra-headed problem of food scarcity, insecurity, and leadership deficit.

“We must be honest to know the resolution of economic needs does not automatically resolve conflict arising from a clash of heritage and values. The best way to lay the foundation for the resolution is for Nigeria to go back to the dream of the founding fathers who had opted for a country where each ethnic group would be able to develop on its terms.

“The greatest pathway to this goal is to restructure Nigeria to stem the violent clashes of civilisations.”

Comrade Popoola Ajayi, General Secretary of AYDM in his address said that the future of Nigeria’s democracy lies in the hands of all Nigerians and that the role of non-state actors is more critical now than ever before.

“We must stand united in our commitment to democratic principles, educational empowerment, and regional autonomy. It is through our collective efforts that we can build a Nigeria where democracy is not just a word, but a lived reality for all,” he said.
