Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has reacted to the nationwide broadcast by President Bola Tinubu, calling for the suspension of the ongoing protest against hunger in the nation.

Dalung, who led the anti-government protest in Jos, Plateau State, last Thursday, was again at an open-air Sunday church service held by the protesters in Jos.

The service was held at the Old Airport Roundabout, attracting a large crowd, including Christian and Muslim leaders.

Protesters carrying Nigerian flags blocked the roundabout, forcing motorists to find alternative routes through the city.

Many attendees explained that the church service was crucial because they believed divine intervention could change Nigeria’s situation and benefit its struggling citizens.

Speaking with journalists, Dalung described Tinubu’s broadcast as empty, stating that the President was merely talking to himself and the cabinet members.

According to him, Tinubu failed to appeal to the protesters; instead, he threatened them and told security agencies to continue with the clampdown, shooting and killing.

The ex-minister said, “The President did not say anything in his speech. He did not appeal to the protesters to stop the protest. He only threatened them and told the security agencies to continue with the clampdown, shooting and killing. He did not even address Nigerians. He was just talking to himself and members of his cabinet. All these things he said only go to strengthen our resolve to continue with this protest.”
