The company issued this notice in a statement on Friday, explaining that the meter upgrade is part of the Token Identifier rollover, a global initiative affecting all Standard Transfer Specification-compliant prepaid meters.

Mainpower urged customers to recharge their prepaid meters to receive the required three sets of 20-digit tokens necessary for the upgrade. Customers are instructed to enter the first 20 digits, press “enter,” then repeat the process for the second and third sets of 20 digits to complete the upgrade.

“Any prepaid meter not upgraded by November 24, 2024, will no longer accept credit tokens, and the meter will be forfeited,” the statement read. It also clarified that there are no charges for the meter upgrades and reassured customers who have already upgraded to disregard the notice.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and all Discos have been urging customers to complete the meter upgrades in recent months.
