Marketers Blame Fuel Queues on NNPCL Petrol Supply Shortage
![‘No Petrol Supply By NNPCL’ – Marketers Explain Return Of Fuel Queues In Nigeria](https://abilitydigitalz.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/‘No-Petrol-Supply-By-NNPCL-–-Marketers-Explain-Return-Of.jpg)

Billy Gillis-Harry, the President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association (PETROAN), has disclosed that the non-supply of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is the reason for the product scarcity in Abuja, Nasarawa, and other states....Click Here To Continue Reading>>
Gillis-Harry disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Daily Post on Saturday, reacting to the re-emergence of fuel queues in Nigeria.
Daily Post reports that fuel queues have resurfaced in the nation’s capital and neighboring Nasarawa, as well as other states, as motorists scramble for the product.
For instance, the NNPCL retail filling station along Kubwa Expressway had massive queues on Friday, similar to Ranoil in Gwarimpa. Meanwhile, the majority of filling stations along the Kubwa Expressway, Lugbe, and Airport Road axis were without fuel on Saturday morning, DAILY POST gathered.
Speaking on the development, Gillis-Harry lamented that he visited numerous filling stations but could not find fuel.
According to him, fuel marketers cannot fix prices since they are not importing the product; rather, they sell according to the amount they buy. He stressed that the reason for the fuel queues and scarcity is because PETROAN members and marketers do not have the product.
“Yesterday (Friday), I went to over fifteen filling stations in Abuja, including NNPCL retail outlets, but there is no product. If they say they increase prices, it is their own thing. You sell according to how much you buy the product.
“We don’t have the product, that is the reason for the scarcity. We cannot fix a price because we don’t import the product; it is NNPCL that is the sole importer.
When asked if the planned commencement of fuel supply by Dangote refinery in mid-July 2024 could be blamed for the scarcity, he said, “Dangote refinery has not brought in any fuel, even Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), we are struggling to have it. What we are saying is that Dangote is facing the herculean challenge of meeting the deadline. We are proud of having a refinery of 650,000 barrels per day in Nigeria.
“Meanwhile, NNPCL cannot say because the Dangote refinery fuel supply is coming on board, they will stop its import. Nigerians depend on PMS daily. Dangote has not produced a liter of PMS.
“The issue is that there is a supply challenge with NNPCL. NNPCL has just a few filling stations. PETROAN and other stakeholders have several across the country. It is critical to ensure that all major stakeholders are aware of the things happening in the sector to avoid situations like this.
“We should ask NNPCL to up their game to halt the supply challenge,” he told DAILY POST.
When DAILY POST called the spokesperson of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, he didn’t take the call nor reply to the text.
The National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Maigandi, told DAILY POST to call him by noon on Saturday regarding the matter.
The development comes as the National Bureau of Statistics, in its latest Petrol Price Watch, reported that the average price of the product per liter rose to N769.62 in May 2024.
Recall that in June of last year, the fuel subsidy removal was announced, which led pump prices to increase to around N700 per liter from N238.11.

Last Thursday’s judgement on Edo state PDP governorship primary by Justice Inyang Ekwo is a distraction and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to appeal against it, chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for Edo State, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has said....Click Here To Continue Reading>>
Fintiri who spoke during the inaugural meeting of the campaign council at PDP national headquarters in Abuja where nine strategy committees were constituted to undertake special roles towards actualizing PDP’s victory in the September 21 governorship election, also described the judgement as a ‘child’s play’ that cannot stop PDP’s victory.
During the event, party leaders introduced two defectors – former Deputy Commissioner of Police and ex-National President of the Road Transport Employers’ Association (RTEAN), Alhaji Musa Isiwele who said that he just led 5, 200 All Progressives Congress members to join the Asue Oghodalo campaign along with former Edo State Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Francis Inegbeniki who said that he only knew the APC governorship candidate as a welder in Jos, years ago, as latest additions to the party’s army of experienced campaigners.
In his address to members of the Edo State PDP National Campaign Council and party stakeholders, Governor Fintiri who said that the task ahead of the campaign council won’t be easy further stated that immediately after the launch of PDP governorship campaign in Edo State, many members will remain in the state until election day.
“Like I said, this is not an easy assignment, it requires a lot of sacrifice and commitment on our part and for us to have accepted this appointment, I know also that we have really agreed to do whatever is required of us to win the election.
“We are all politicians, the only thing we understand in politics is to win elections and that is why there is no second position in any election; you either win or you are lost but in this outing, we are out to win.
“And yes, there is a little setback, temporarily but God will see us through it; the court judgement of three days ago, anybody who perused and looks through the entire process, you know that is a child’s play,” Fintiri stated, adding that PDP has resolved to immediately go ahead with an appeal against the judgement.
In his speech, PDP National Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN) who said that the ‘somersault’ done by Justice Ekwo does not invalidate Edo state PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo’s candidature also urged party stakeholders not to feel dismayed.
In a brief speech, PDP governorship candidate in Edo state, Asue Ighodalo who expressed concerns about current indicators and distractions also expressed hope that the capacity and experience of those in the PDP National Campaign Council for Edo state will see things through.
His words: “It is not going to be easy, it is going to be very difficult, we are already seeing the signs; it is going to be a difficult election; not on the issues, but on the distractions but sometimes, the distractions are more difficult to deal with than the issues.
“But I know we have leaders who are more than capable to set the ball rolling and to lift us higher than some others, so, I am truly grateful.”

The Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Security, Chief Joe Har, has brokered a security peace meeting between the Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Benjamin Uzenda and security agencies operating in the local government on the number of check-points in Ugba town, the headquarter of the local government....Click Here To Continue Reading>>
The meeting, convened by the council chairman, was to resolve the incessant complaints from motorists and commercial motorcycle riders on the number of security check-points being operated as well as extortion.
There was a misunderstanding, following directives by the Council Chairman, Benjamin Uzenda, that the number of security checkpoints manned by the various security agencies be reduced.
Motorcycle riders popularly called Okada and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), had threatened to protest if the check-points were not reduced to a nearest minimum.
Speaking to The Nation after the meeting, Uzenda expressed satisfaction with the resolution reached at the meeting.
He said he took the steps to also reduced cost of food items in the market, stressing that when he took over the affairs of the local government, there was tension between some security agencies and roads ushers, especially okada riders and commercial vehicles over alleged extortion at multiple check-points mounted on the only major road that passed through the area.
“I was worried because the alleged extortions going on at the check-points created unnecessary tension; so I had to invite the Security Adviser to the Governor to intervene and I’m happy the whole issue has been resolved.”
The Security Adviser to the Governor, Chief Har, corroborated the Chairman: “Yes the matter has been resolved, we urged all road ushers to support security personnel and agencies, because without them, nobody will do business in this very town.
“We also agreed on mode of operations, which I cannot tell you the media, but we have done everything possible to boost the morale of security agencies in Ugba town.”

On Saturday, Madubuachi Idam, an activist lawyer, has said presidential candidates should stop using electricity as campaign promises....Click Here To Continue Reading>>
Idam made the remark while lamenting over the collapse of the national grid which led to blackout.
Recall that there was a nationwide blackout in Nigeria around 3 pm on Saturday.
However, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, said bulk supply was partially restored by Transmission Company of Nigeria around 6:54 pm on Saturday.
Reacting, Idam faulted socio political commentators, Reno Omokri and Daniel Bwala, for defending President Bola Tinubu despite failure to provide adequate electricity supply.
In a chat with Daily Post, Idam said: “Once again, I hear the national grid has collapsed. No gainsaying that the grid has become epileptic under this administration.
“Worst of all, scarcity of fuel rocks more now in Nigeria despite its outrageous price. Unfortunately, President Tinubu’s wannabe PRs (Reno Omokri and Daniel Bwala) are on social media defending him with every drop of their blood.
“I think the next Nigeria’s presidential aspirants must henceforth quit using electricity as campaign promises, because the more they promise to improve electricity in Nigeria, the worse it gets.”
