The spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, confirmed the incident, stating that the police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) responded promptly to the attack. They engaged the gunmen in a fierce exchange of gunfire, managing to neutralize two of the assailants, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
Regrettably, during the shootout, stray bullets from the assailants claimed the lives of Inspector Shehu Oyibo, Chika Godliveth (male), Onyenaturuchi Jonah (male, 32 years old from Item, Bende L.G.A of Abia State), and Eniobong Godsgift Clement (female, 18 years old from Akwa Ibom State). Their bodies have been deposited at the mortuary as investigations continue to apprehend the fleeing gunmen.
ASP Chinaka reassured the public of heightened security measures across the state, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.
