. Sources indicate that 15 individuals were killed when a suspected cult gang attacked a local restaurant in a Lexus SUV during the celebration. The assailants opened fire on attendees who were enjoying food and drinks.
However, Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga contested this casualty figure, stating that only five people were killed, with three others suffering serious injuries and currently receiving medical care.
In his update on the incident, SP Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, he reiterated the police’s commitment to apprehending those responsible for the attack, expressing concern over attempts by the victims’ families to conceal evidence and hinder the investigation.
He accused the relatives of obstructing efforts to clarify the circumstances surrounding the murders.
Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Itam led a team to the crime scene and found that family members were allegedly trying to obscure details related to the deaths.
“The Anambra State Police Command is dedicated to thoroughly investigating this case of cult-related violence, which resulted in five fatalities and three serious injuries. We strongly oppose any efforts by relatives to hide evidence or disrupt our work,” Ikenga stated.
He quoted CP Itam as affirming that the police would intensify their efforts to track down the perpetrators.
