The Kaduna State Assembly has decided against the use of electronic voting while making changes to the electoral legislation.

The assembly approved a new law amending the State Electoral Law No. 2 of 2021, which eliminates the utilization of electronic voting machines.

The law was enacted by Speaker Yusuf Dahiru following a thorough review and acceptance of the revised law and suggestions presented by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Emmanuel Kantiyok.

The updated law specified that the definition of “Ballot Box” in Section 3 should be modified by removing the reference to “Electronic Voting Machine.”

“Ballot Box means a receptacle for the collection of ballot paper”.

It was suggested that the phrase “Electronic Device” be removed in all instances, adding that within the law’s content, the term “Ballot Receipt” be eliminated.
