In a recent incident, three women were kidnapped in Igbaja, a town within Ifelodun Local Government Area, last Sunday. Reports indicate that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N30 million for the release of two of these victims.

Additionally, in September, Lukman Balogun, the head of a local vigilante group, was tragically killed during a kidnapping raid. His death has left the community feeling even more exposed.

The wave of abductions has not been confined to isolated incidents. In August, twenty travelers moving through the Osi/Obbo- Aiyegunle road, a key route between Kwara and Kogi states, were taken by a group of around ten armed men. The attack, which targeted three separate vehicles, has heightened fears for those who rely on this route for travel and commerce.

The level of violence in these kidnappings has been particularly unsettling. A recent video circulating on social media shows a vigilante officer, who requested anonymity, recounting his harrowing experience of being shot by kidnappers in Isapa. He explained that the armed assailants, dressed in military camouflage and carrying AK- 47s, have been abducting locals every three days. Displaying a gunshot wound on his waist, he implored the government to take decisive action to protect residents and restore a sense of safety.

The officer described how he was left for dead by the kidnappers after they took his weapon and ammunition. He spent eight days in the hospital and struggled to walk until the fourth day of his recovery. Reflecting on the series of incidents, he noted that kidnappers recently abducted twenty more individuals, with one victim’ s body discovered, underscoring the lethal risks residents face. The officer expressed frustration at the perceived lack of police support, stating, ” The police have abandoned us. ”
