A 25- year- old lady identified as Victoria Effiong has been arrested and dragged to court over her refusal to marry a young man after collecting items worth over N2. 8 million from him. She appeared before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Iba on Friday, 4th of October, 2024. She was charged for breach of peace, cheating, and obtaining by false pretense.
The lady was dragged to court following the report from a young man identified as Dominic Asuquo. He was the one who reported to the police that he bought the lady an iPhone, wigs, shoes, clothes, bags, and many other things after she promised to marry him. He said every item he bought for her worth N2, 866, 000, this was including the money he gave her for her upkeep.
While speaking in court, the man said there was a time he gave the lady a cash of N810, 000 and also, he normally gave her daily money for her feeding, adding that he did that for seven months and it amounted to the total sum of N868, 000. The man claimed to have done a lot of things for the lady but that was all he could remember or account for.
Trouble started when the young man found out that the lady was planning to marry another man, despite the fact that she had introduced him to her parents, who were aware of their relationship. Meanwhile, the lady, while defending herself, claimed that she was never in a relationship with the young man/Asuquo, adding that he knew she was in a relationship with another person.
