The specifics of the crime, as revealed in court, provided a terrible picture of a woman’s fragility and a man’ s misuse of power. The complainant had gone to her ex- husband’ s home in Chikangwe on April 25th with her uncle in tow in order to collect her belongings. What started out as a straightforward act of taking back what was rightfully hers became a nightmare.

The accused individual asked to speak with her in private when they got there, and they went into the bedroom where he locked the door, ” the prosecutor said, his voice emotionless but heavy with accusations. “The complainant pushed him away after he grabbed her violently. The two wrestled until the accused person overpowered her. He once raped her after pushing her onto the bed. The complainant’s uncle and a neighbour, alerted by her screams, tried in vain to force open the locked door. It was only when they phoned the police that the horror finally stopped. The police arrived, rescued the plaintiff, and arrested the suspects. The complainant was promptly transferred to Karoi District Hospital for a medical evaluation, a testament to the physical and emotional suffering she had undergone.
