The incident was confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.
He noted that the device was found wrapped in a bag and left by the roadside from an unregistered vehicle along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to Hundeyin, at approximately 1600 hours, a police officer reported the suspicious activity to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) base in Ikeja.
“The officer observed an unregistered white Corolla car parked on the main road close to the gate of the Police Mobile Force 23 (PMF 23) barracks.
“A young man was seen alighting from the car and carefully placing a bag by the side of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence before quickly driving away.
“Based on the officer’s report, a team from the EOD-CBRN base was promptly dispatched to the scene to assess and neutralize the potential threat. Upon arrival, the team confirmed the presence of an IED. The area was immediately cordoned off, and standard operating procedures were followed to render the device safe. The IED was then transported to a secure location for detonation.”
Hundeyin added that the residual components of the IED have been collected for further analysis and investigation. The area has been declared safe, and normalcy has been restored.
The Lagos State Police Command has however assured the public of its commitment to maintaining security and urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
