Major generating companies, such as Sapele and Rivers IPP, reported no power output, leading to widespread blackouts. This incident adds to the ongoing challenges in the power sector, despite government assurances of improvements in service delivery.
It’s important to note that all northern states, except Niger and Kwara, have been without power for two weeks.
The states most severely affected include Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Gombe, and Katsina, all experiencing complete blackouts.
The outages are also impacting Sokoto, Zamfara, Bauchi, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Benue.
The power outages across northern Nigeria began after vandals damaged the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, which is the primary power supply line for the region.
