He used a Yoruba proverb to illustrate the belief that if someone’s condition cannot be improved, it is better not to make it worse.
In a video shared by Sahara TV, Falana said the government offered workers 65,000 naira minimum wage last year.
He argued that it is illogical to offer a lower wage this year when economic conditions have worsened. He said while the federal government may claim that a 400,000 naira minimum wage demanded by Labour is unsustainable, 48,000 naira minimum wage is also inadequate for workers to sustain their livelihoods.
In Falana’s words: “ Yorubas will say God if you can’t improve my condition, leave me where
you met me. So you can’t say I was giving you N65,000 last year because of the terrible effect of our economic policies, and this year that the situation is worse it is illogical to talk of 48,000 naira minimum wage
