This statement follows an appeal by Chief Tony Okocha, the Rivers APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, who urged the Federal Government to consider drastic measures, including the declaration of a state of emergency, citing what he described as a “full-blown war” in the state. Okocha’s appeal is based on claims that the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is helpless and that the police. have shown bias in handling the tenure elongation issue involving former local government chairpersons.

In response, Nze Chidi Duru, the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, asserted that there is no valid reason to involve the president in the state’s turmoil. He stressed that the situation should be managed by law enforcement agencies.

“This is my personal view. This issue falls within the jurisdiction of law enforcement agents, and it is inappropriate to involve the president.. We operate within a democracy, which is fundamentally based on the rule of law, procedures, and adherence to court orders, “Duru stated.
