Australian judge, Benjamin Lowe, has been removed from the surfing competition event at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

This was after an image surfaced on social media of Lowe posing for a picture with Australian surfer, Ethan Ewing.

The International Surfing Association, ISA, said in a statement on Thursday that it removed the judge from the panel for the remainder of the event.

ISA explained that the action was taken to “protect the integrity and fairness of the competition.”

During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games, Lowe was heavily criticised by the Brazilian surfing federation for underscoring Gabriel Medina in his semi-final heat against Japanese, Kanoa Igarashi.
