The youngster delivered the quadruplets naturally shortly after experiencing labour pains

Although excited, Mwajuma is worried that her family is poor and the father of her babies is a primary school dropout

Butaleja district is in a celebratory mood following the remarkable birth of quadruplets by a 16-year-old Senior Two student, Mwajuma Nankya.

The young mother delivered her four babies on Sunday, September 1, at Busolwe Hospital.

The young mother was later transferred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for further care.

The joyful Nankya, beaming with pride, recounted her journey to motherhood.

She explained that after experiencing labour pains, she initially visited a nearby clinic, which promptly referred her to Busolwe Hospital for delivery.

“During the antenatal visits, they told me I was carrying twins, but to my surprise, when the time came, they were quadruplets,” Nankya said.

Nankya, who was in Senior Two when she became pregnant, expressed her desire to return to school.

However, she acknowledged the challenges ahead, citing her humble background and the vulnerability of the children’s father.

According to her, the babies’ father had dropped out of school after completing primary school.

Dr Abeso, in charge of the children’s ward at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, confirmed that all four babies are healthy and stable.

However, she expressed concerns about the challenges Nankya might face once discharged, particularly regarding breastfeeding all four infants.
