It was reported that the armed men, who appeared to have carried out their nefarious deeds without any resistance, invaded a Zango City mining site on Monday, killing five people, precisely two workers and three vigilantes before kidnapping two Chinese nationals.

According to the local residents of the region, the tragic incident started about 5 p. m and lasted for around 45 minutes. The sounds of intermittent gunfire came from the steep area behind Al Azhar International School. Many of the suspected and unidentified gunmen, who were estimated to be in their 20s, had beards on their faces.

Residents immediately shutdown their shops and terrified locals fled their homes to seek safety in other locations amidst the unceasing deafening gunfire coming from the mountain which sparked up tension and obvious pandemonium in the region.

Quite dishearteningly, the murdered vigilantes were identified as Abdulazeez, Tijani, and Yusuf by a hunter who wished for his identity not to be made public claimed that he assisted in the evacuation of the bodies and claimed to have seen graphic images of the remains of the deceased persons.

When approached, a man who gave his name as Abdul, a resident and shop owner in Zango, recounted that he heard the sounds of the gunshots, ” Initially, we did not know what was happening, and the gunshots were loud. I had to leave the area along with other people out of fear. This is very bad and worrisome in the state capital. We urge the government to step up security in the state”.

There was no response to calls or messages left for William Anya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), or police source in an effort to get a response from them in regards to the above- mentioned tragedy.
