Simon Ekpa, the self- proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafran Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), has sparked controversy with a bold claim about the revered Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. Williams, in a tweet, accused Ekpa of being a mercenary manipulated by powerful Igbo politicians to destabilize the Southeast, stating, ” Simon Ekpa is not working in the best interest of Ndigbo. He is a mercenary, strategically planted to destabilize the Southeast for the benefit of certain powerful Igbo politicians. ”
In response, Ekpa took a swipe at the Ooni of Ife and the Yoruba people, asserting that the Ooni is a puppet controlled by Fulani elites. He tweeted, ” The Ooni of Ife is a fraud, planted by the Usman Dan Fodio descendants in Yorubaland as an enabler. . . Fulani are killing Yoruba Obas and monarchs, but he is yet to condemn any of the killings. ”
Ekpa’ s comments have stirred widespread reactions, especially his statement that the Ooni represents how ” not to be a king. ” He further labeled the Yoruba monarch as an ” Afonja, ” a derogatory term used to describe those who allegedly betray their people.
