Strange illness kills 12 in Gombe, many hospitalised

The Chessi community in Kulani District of Balanga Local Government Area in Gombe State has been struck by an outbreak of an unidentified disease, resulting in 12 deaths and over 50 residents hospitalised.

Medical doctors, Israel James and Yakubu Maina, while addressing the press, stated that the disease is not cholera, noting that blood and water samples have been taken to determine the nature of the illness.

“Currently, more than 30 patients are bedridden with symptoms including severe headaches, high fever, jaundice, and stomach pain.”

The doctors further advised the community to report any suspicious symptoms to the health centre established at Chessi Primary School.

Alhaji Musa Buba, the member representing Balanga North Constituency at the Gombe State House of Assembly, donated drugs and consumables worth over N1.5 million to the Chessi community.

Buba made the donation upon receiving news of the outbreak and expressed gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for dispatching a delegation from the Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Patients, including Habiba Salisu, Aisha Mohammed, and Mohammed Sulaiman, who spoke to newsmen, expressed their gratitude to Musa Buba for providing essential drugs and consumables.
