Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh announced the arrest during a news conference on Monday in Abuja. He revealed that the suspect, who had escaped from Kuje jail and resided in the Mararaba area of Nasarawa State, was captured on July 17 at a hotel in Kano while attempting to flee the country.

Items recovered from the suspect’s Mararaba residence included the late general’s service pistol, his wristwatch, and his wife’s jewelry, all stolen during the murder. Additionally, 79 bottles of codeine were found at the residence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had previously reported on June 24 the arrest of four suspects connected to the brigadier general’s murder.

Commissioner Igweh also disclosed that Utako Division operatives, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Victor Godfrey, had arrested three suspects involved in armed robbery and kidnapping. The suspects were tracked to Jabi area of Abuja, where a Golf Vento vehicle with registration No. KWL 368 CP, driven by armed robbers, was intercepted. The suspects engaged in a gunfight with the police, which resulted in the arrest of three gang members while the fourth escaped with bullet wounds.

Recovered from these suspects were two English pistols, two magazines, 49 live ammunitions, three flashlights, and several charms.

Furthermore, the police command arrested eight suspects for vandalism and cable theft from government institutions. These suspects were apprehended in Kabusa area of Abuja, where stolen cables had been removed and prepared for transport. A truck loaded with suspected stolen household items, vehicle scraps, and a bus filled with burnt cables were seized.

Additionally, six suspected stolen vehicles, reportedly ready for dismantling, were recovered from a “pantaker” operation in Kabusa.

Commissioner Igweh confirmed that all suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
