President Bola Tinubu has reportedly sacked Ahmed Halilu, an uncle to Aisha Buhari, the former first lady of Nigeria, ordered him and four others to immediately vacate their position at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (NSPM).
According to the report, Halilu was appointed as the Managing Director of NSPM by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022, but the Tinubu decided to send him packing two years after his appointment. ..Read Full Article
It was gathered that other executing of the printing company, including Victoria Irabor, wife to former Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor, Ado Danjuma, Chris Orewa, and Tunji Kazeem.
While the circumstances that led to their sacking were not clearly stated, it was speculated that the company and the executives were involved in the illegal printing of money, particularly the recent controversies regarding the introduction of new currency.
It was gathered that the printing company in collaboration with the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Goodwin Emefiele carried out the printing of new currency towards the later part of Buhari’ s administration without following the normal processes.
A special investigator deployed by President Tinubu, Jim Obazee, who reported on the CBN’ s affairs under the Buhari’ s administration, allegedly claimed that NSPM was then tasked with printing the redesigned currency but failed to deliver it adequately.
The report disclosed that Abubakar Minjibir, Executive Director of Operations (Abuja factory), has been asked to act as Managing Director in the interim.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that the relationship between President Tinubu and his predecessor has suffered a setback. It was rumoured that the former President and some Northern politicians have started planning how to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.
