Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul, along with Representatives French Hill, Rich McCormick, and Tom McClintock, expressed relief over Gambaryan’s release.

In a joint statement, the lawmakers condemned his “unjust detention” by Nigerian authorities, noting multiple violations of his due process rights throughout the eight-month period.

“These violations included limited access to legal counsel and U.S. consular support, as well as inadequate healthcare, raising serious concerns for his well-being,” the statement said.

They added, “While long overdue, we are relieved that Tigran Gambaryan has finally been released from this wrongful detention by the Nigerian government. During his time in custody, he faced repeated infringements on his due process rights, including restricted access to his legal team and consular assistance, along with inadequate medical care.”

“This treatment of a law-abiding American citizen is completely unacceptable. Our thoughts are with Tigran and his family, and we hope he can recover quickly from this distressing experience,” the statement concluded.

Gambaryan’s release came after sustained efforts by U.S. lawmakers and growing international attention to his case.
