Some Nigerians have called for the arrest of the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, Ihunwo Chijioke, over a crime against the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 election. Naija News reports that Ihunwo, an ally of Governor Sim Fubara, admitted to the crime while addressing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders at Rumunduru ward, in Obio-Akpor local government area, on the feud between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. He said LP won the elections in the state during the 2023 polls, but they wrote the results released by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ihunwo added that they are not scared of anybody, and it is payback time now. However, the video has generated reactions from netizens, with many calling for Ihunwo’s arrest. @ugezu wrote: “A man riding on the back of political razzmatazz, has just confessed to a crime, a deadly crime that bothers on denying the people, the leader they chose. Something aught to happen in a normal state. But Niger Area is surely an abnormal place.” @billionaire wrote: “Not new everyone knows obi wins hands down but no worries there is a word called karma” @sbaitalkone wrote: “The truth is coming out little by little, but karma is awaiting you every member of your family, pay back days ahead” @adejumoke wrote: “He just confessed to a crime, he should be arrested.” @sosng wrote: “Ode thinks he’s doing confessions 😂. We know Peter Obi won the general elections. Keep suffering and taking yourselves 10 years back in Nigeria” @felicity wrote: “Can’t believe some Nigerians are there shouting “yes oo” Y’all really deserve what the govt dish out to you” @meggs.fashion wrote: “Everyone knows that Labour Party won the election” @wizzy wrote: “I have made up my mind. I have come to do conclusion. It is only the military that can save us from this mess. Cos the citizens will and can never rise up to face this people. We have been too docile has a people. DSS operatives storm National Assembly, manhandle two workers

Published

Personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) went on the rampage on Friday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, manhandling two senior staff members, John Nnadi of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) and Chris Odoh, a Deputy Director. Trouble began for the two when DSS staff sought their identity cards as they made their way from the Senate Building to the White House, the beautiful structure that connects the Senate and the House of Representatives buildings. An eyewitness told our correspondent that security personnel stopped the National Assembly workers because they failed to identify themselves. Infuriated by the DSS personnel’s brazenness, the couple attempted to push their way in, which resulted in rough treatment and an assault by security officers. Passersby’s attempts to intervene in the problem exacerbated the situation as the armed men dragged Nnadi and Idoh to their offices in the White House Complex. Staff members of Money Deposit Banks and Senate correspondents present at the National Assembly expressed compassion for the staff’s mistreatment. Disturbed by the embarrassing incident, National Assembly officials from various offices at the White House, including the Senate’s mace bearer, stormed the DSS office, demanding their colleagues’ immediate release. In an effort to restore order, Alex Annagu, Divisional Police Officer at the National Assembly, and Mrs. Ilobah Isabella, Deputy Clerk to the Senate (Legislative), hurried to the scene and urged everyone to return to their respective offices.

Panel of Inquiry recovers govt car from ex-Director The Abia State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the recovery of government property and funds has recovered a Toyota Corolla car from a former Director of Administration of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, ASOPADEC, Maxwell Enyite. The recovered car was said to have been bequeathed to Enyite by the Commission to aid his movement from Umuahia to Aba. But the Chairman of the Panel, Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe while addressing the matter in Umuahia, said there is no substantial evidence before the panel to conclude that the vehicle was given to Enyite by ASOPADEC. She reminded the respondent that only the Governor of the state as required by law has the power to bequeath government property to stakeholders or individuals for a meritorious service rendered for the state which she said must follow due process. Justice Duruoha-Igwe therefore ordered that the vehicle be parked at the Panel’s premises pending further investigations. But in his speech, Maxwell Enyite said the Commission invited him and handed over the Toyota Corolla to him as a parting gift. He said the car was in a rickety condition before the Commission gave it to him adding that he spent money to repair the vehicle to assist him shuttle from Umuahia to Aba, his new posting office, at the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA).

Police nab doctor, nurses over missing placenta

The police in Kwara State have launched an inquiry into the loss of a newborn baby’s umbilical cord and placenta at the Government Cottage Hospital in Iloffa, Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the state.

Mrs. C. Williams, a class teacher at Orota Secondary School in Odo-Owa, claimed to have given birth on Sunday night but was not given the umbilical cord or placenta by medical officials. It was gathered that five of the workers were later arrested in connection with the missing parts and are being held by the command’s general investigation unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ilorin. The suspects arrested by the police include a resident doctor, three nurses, and a ward attendant at the hospital. According to reports, the police were invited when efforts to settle the dispute at various levels failed. It was also revealed that it needed the efforts of Odo-Owa community leaders to calm some furious teenagers who suspected foul play and were going to burn down the hospital on Tuesday due to the occurrence. Mrs. Williams, while recounting her journey, stated that she was transported to the hospital after suffering labour pains on Sunday afternoon and gave birth to a baby at 7 p.m. the same day. “I was feeling some labour pains on Sunday, and I got to the cottage hospital some minutes past 1 p.m. on Sunday and told the nurse I met on duty that I was having contractions; she was the one that attended to me after confirming that I was truly in labour. “She took me into the labour room and asked me to wait because I still had more time. Not quite long after I came, the doctor also came in and instructed the nurse to usher me into the labour room,” she said. She stated that the morning after giving birth, she was discharged and permitted to go home. She claimed that when the medical staff requested her to go, they gave her a bag containing her belongings but did not give her the placenta or the baby’s umbilical cord. “Although they handed a black nylon bag to me, I discovered that there were two missing items inside the nylon; they are the umbilical cord and the placenta,” she said. When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer Ejire-Adeyemi Toun confirmed the occurrence and stated that the inquiry was underway. “The police are investigating the incident, and five suspects have been arrested in connection with it,” the PPRO said.
