Xiaomi has expanded its smartphone portfolio in Nigeria with the launch of the new Xiaomi 17T Series, introducing flagship-level imaging features, dual device sizes and upgraded camera capabilities across the lineup.
The new range includes the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro, marking the first time the T Series arrives in two size options. Xiaomi says the devices are designed to combine photography performance, battery endurance and premium display technology for users seeking a more advanced smartphone experience.
At the centre of the launch is an upgraded camera system developed in partnership with Leica. Both models feature a triple-camera setup led by a 50-megapixel main sensor and, for the first time in the T Series, include Leica-powered 5x telephoto functionality across the entire lineup.
The Xiaomi 17T Pro uses a larger 1/1.31-inch sensor, while the Xiaomi 17T features a 1/1.55-inch sensor. According to Xiaomi, the imaging system combines Leica UltraPure optical engineering with a Leica Summilux lens structure to improve detail capture, low-light performance and depth rendering.
One of the standout additions is Leica Live Moment, a new imaging mode designed to capture movement and emotion around a scene rather than focusing solely on a single still frame. The feature works across all rear camera focal lengths and aims to deliver a more dynamic storytelling experience through photography.
Xiaomi also expanded portrait capabilities with Leica Live Portrait, which introduces natural-looking background blur while maintaining motion realism. New Leica watermark options and collage-sharing tools are also included for users creating content for social platforms.
Beyond still photography, Xiaomi highlighted video improvements, especially on the Xiaomi 17T Pro, which introduces 4K 60fps cinematic recording to the Xiaomi Series. The company said the feature is intended to deliver smoother footage with more natural background separation.
The telephoto camera system supports close-range macro shooting from 30 centimetres, 10x optical-grade zoom and up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom, offering flexibility for users capturing subjects at varying distances.
With the introduction of dual sizes and expanded Leica integration, Xiaomi appears to be positioning the 17T Series as a photography-focused flagship alternative aimed at creators and everyday users looking for premium mobile imaging features.
