President Bola Tinubu has praised Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for accelerating infrastructure delivery in Abuja, describing project execution as a defining part of the minister’s leadership style.
Speaking through the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of service carriageways along the Southern Parkway corridor in Abuja on Tuesday, the president said the latest project forms part of the administration’s broader infrastructure agenda.
Tinubu said Wike had replicated the development approach associated with his tenure in Rivers State and brought similar momentum to the FCT. According to him, abandoned projects have been revived while new targets are being delivered within shorter timelines.
During the event, the president said the additional carriageways would strengthen road connectivity across districts and reduce traffic pressure in parts of the capital city that experience daily congestion.
“You have awakened abandoned projects, set clear targets and delivered them in record time,” Tinubu said in remarks delivered on his behalf. He added that the improvements align with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda and are becoming visible across Abuja.
The Southern Parkway service carriageways project stretches from Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) to Ring Road II and is expected to complement the previously completed main carriageway. Government officials said the expansion is intended to improve mobility and ease movement across the southern axis of the capital.
Authorities identified communities including Durumi, Kudu, Gaduwa, Jikwoyi and nearby mass housing districts as areas expected to benefit from reduced congestion and improved travel times once the road infrastructure is completed.
Tinubu also used the occasion to highlight other road interventions undertaken in the FCT over the last three years, arguing that continued investment in transport infrastructure is central to economic activity, urban expansion and quality of life for residents.
