In a statement released on Sunday by JNI Secretary-General, Professor Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, the Sultan expressed profound shock at the incident. He characterized the mob action as “ungodly” and warned that such acts of “jungle justice” signal a dangerous trend of barbarism that threatens the fabric of Nigerian society.
The JNI specifically addressed disturbing reports of police involvement in the tragedy. Allegations have surfaced suggesting that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Mararaban Jos Division may have surrendered the victim to the angry crowd rather than securing her safety.
“Particularly disturbing are allegations surrounding the conduct of the Divisional Police Officer… who reportedly surrendered the victim to the angry mob instead of guaranteeing her constitutional protection,” the statement read.
The JNI has demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into these claims. The organization asserted that if police negligence or complicity is established, the officers involved must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They emphasized that the fundamental duty of law enforcement is the protection of life, which is rendered void if officers abandon citizens to mob violence.
Beyond the call for criminal justice, the JNI urged both the Kaduna State Government and broader authorities to provide tangible support for the victim’s surviving family. This includes calls for compensation—or Diyya—to be paid to the bereaved and a commitment from the state to provide for the education of the victim’s children.
