I Watch the News Constantly to Track My Opponents – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he regularly follows television news broadcasts to stay informed about political developments and monitor his opponents.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Wike explained that he makes it a routine to watch major news bulletins daily to hear information directly rather than relying on second-hand accounts.

“I watch the news all the time. I watch the 8 o’clock news on Channels, I watch the 7 o’clock news on TVC, so that I can know where my enemies are coming from. I don’t want people to tell me what they said. I want to hear it for myself,” he said.

He further noted that he revisits missed broadcasts later at night, adding that the habit helps him remain prepared and aware of unfolding situations.

Wike also responded to a recent controversy involving remarks he made about Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television. He clarified that his earlier comment referencing “shooting” the journalist was not intended as a literal threat but was instead used figuratively and had been misunderstood.

The minister’s remarks highlight his approach to staying informed in Nigeria’s dynamic political environment, while also addressing concerns over the interpretation of his public statements….See more
