Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has expressed his willingness to honour the invitation extended to him by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations he made against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh.
However, the activist has requested that the investigative process be conducted under strict transparency measures to ensure public confidence.
In a statement dated August 5, 2026, VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, and his legal team said the activist remains ready to cooperate fully with the investigation while insisting on safeguards to guarantee fairness and accountability.
The statement, signed by Zainab Otega on behalf of the legal team, followed the Nigeria Police Force’s confirmation that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, had invited VDM to substantiate allegations he made against the senior police officer.
According to the legal team, VDM welcomed the decision by the police to investigate the claims and maintained that he has never opposed any lawful investigation.
“Our client appreciates the decision of the Nigeria Police Force to commence an official investigation into the concerns he raised and reiterates his willingness to cooperate with the investigation,” the statement read.
It added:
“For the avoidance of doubt, our client has never opposed any lawful investigation. On the contrary, he remains ready, willing and available to honour any invitation lawfully extended to him by the Nigeria Police Force.”
The lawyers, however, argued that given the public interest surrounding the matter and the seniority of the officer involved, the investigation should be transparent, fair and accountable.
They requested that representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society organisations and other independent observers be allowed to monitor the interview.
The legal team also insisted that VDM’s lawyers should be allowed to accompany him throughout the interrogation at the FCID headquarters in Abuja.
According to the statement, the presence of independent observers would eliminate the possibility of misinformation or misrepresentation and enhance public confidence in the investigative process.
The lawyers stressed that the requests were made in good faith and were not intended to interfere with the statutory powers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“These requests are made in good faith and are neither intended to undermine the statutory investigative powers of the Nigeria Police Force nor to dictate the manner in which it discharges its constitutional and statutory responsibilities,” the statement said.
“Rather, they are made in recognition of the exceptional public importance of this matter and the need to ensure that the investigative process commands the confidence of the public.”
The legal team reaffirmed that VDM remains committed to appearing before the FCID in line with the police invitation.
The development follows an earlier statement by the Nigeria Police Force confirming that the activist had been invited to provide evidence supporting allegations he made against AIG Moshood Jimoh.
The police also clarified that the criminal case referenced by VDM is already before a competent court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and would be determined through the judicial process rather than public debate.
Separately, the Force disclosed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the FCID had also invited AIG Jimoh for questioning as part of an internal administrative review of the allegations levelled against him…..See more
