Oyo Pupils Reunites

Thirty-one of the 39 pupils rescued after their abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been discharged from the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, following medical treatment and evaluation.

Hospital authorities said the children were released to their families after doctors confirmed they were medically fit. Eight other pupils remain under observation and will continue receiving treatment until they fully recover.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Olawale Olakulehin, said all 39 children were admitted immediately after their rescue for comprehensive medical examinations, treatment and psychological assessment.

During the medical evaluation, doctors discovered that one of the pupils had a congenital heart defect that had not previously been diagnosed. According to Olakulehin, the child’s parents were unaware of the condition before the hospital’s assessment.

“One of the children was found to have a congenital heart defect—a hole in the heart—during our comprehensive medical evaluation. The child is stable and responding well to care, so there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

He added that the hospital had commenced appropriate medical management and would formally notify the Oyo State Government to facilitate the next phase of the child’s treatment.

Beyond treating physical health concerns, the hospital said it is providing psychological support to help the pupils recover from the trauma of their time in captivity. Medical teams will continue monitoring both the physical and mental well-being of the children throughout their recovery.

The 39 pupils were among those abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area before being rescued after spending several weeks in captivity.
