A new leadership dispute has emerged within Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi announced herself as the party’s legitimate national chairperson.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Danladi rejected the authority of the current leadership and signalled her intention to challenge it in court.
She disclosed plans to file a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to overturn what she described as an “illegitimate structure” overseeing the party’s operations.
Danladi explained that her action is aimed at restoring due process within the APC, which has recently been troubled by internal disagreements over its leadership and direction.
“I hereby assert my position as the true and authentic Chairperson of the APC,” she stated, maintaining that her claim is based on legal grounds.
The development points to deepening tensions within the party, with a legal showdown likely to determine its leadership moving forward.
