Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has signalled a fresh enforcement drive against illegal developments in Abuja, warning that authorities will remove structures found to violate the city’s approved master plan.
Speaking on Tuesday during the official flag-off of the construction of two service carriageways along the Southern Parkway in Gaduwa District, Wike said protecting the Abuja Master Plan remains a priority for the administration.
The minister directed officials of the Development Control Department and the Lands Department to identify structures built without proper approvals and take immediate action where violations are established.
According to Wike, properties found to be illegally erected within the project corridor will not be allowed to remain, stressing that urban planning rules must be enforced to preserve the capital city’s development framework.
“Any illegal structure along the corridor will be removed. We must protect the integrity of the Abuja Master Plan,” the minister said during the event.
Wike also accused some developers of attempting to legitimise land occupation through forged documents and alleged encroachment on government-owned land. He warned that such practices would not be recognised by authorities.
The latest remarks come amid ongoing infrastructure expansion and urban renewal projects across the FCT, where enforcement actions and redevelopment efforts have increasingly placed attention on land documentation and compliance requirements.
The development is expected to renew scrutiny among property owners and developers over title verification, planning approvals and adherence to Abuja’s long-term urban design policies as construction activities continue across key districts.
