A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Isaac Balami, has criticised the handling of leadership decisions within the Labour Party’s political structure during the 2023 elections.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Balami said the Middle Belt region played a significant role in supporting Peter Obi during the presidential race. He noted that many individuals from the region actively campaigned, voted, and took risks in backing Obi’s candidacy.
Despite this, Balami argued that the region was sidelined when key decisions were made. He claimed that when it came to appointing a leader for the Obidient movement, Obi selected someone from Kano instead of considering supporters from the Middle Belt.
According to him, the individual chosen did not secure victory even in his own polling unit during the election, a development Balami described as disappointing given the level of support Obi received from the Middle Belt.
He maintained that the decision reflected a lack of recognition for the region’s contributions, raising concerns about inclusiveness in the party’s internal structure at the time.
