Ogun Government Dismisses Viral Claims of Terrorist Invasion

The Ogun State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram insurgents, and other terrorist groups are planning to invade the state.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kayode Akinmade, the government described the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.

The government assured the public that Ogun State remains safe and that there is no intelligence suggesting any imminent security threat.

Security Agencies on High Alert

According to the statement, security agencies across the state remain fully vigilant, with adequate measures already in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

“The true situation is that there is no imminent threat of invasion by any terrorist group. Security agencies are on high alert, and adequate measures have already been put in place to checkmate any individual or group seeking to foment trouble,” Akinmade said.

He added that some individuals were deliberately exploiting insecurity concerns in other parts of the country to spread fear and confusion within Ogun State.

Suspects Arrested Over False Reports

The government disclosed that security agencies have already arrested some individuals linked to the spread of the false invasion claims on social media.

According to the statement, those arrested are currently being prosecuted, as authorities warned that spreading misinformation that could incite panic would not be tolerated.

“This should serve as a warning to anyone seeking to deliberately spread falsehoods or disrupt public peace,” the statement added.

Strengthening Security Architecture

Akinmade noted that the state government is working closely with security agencies, traditional institutions, and local stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve community-based security.

He explained that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration remains committed to investing in security infrastructure, technology-driven surveillance, and coordinated response systems across the state.

Residents were urged to rely only on official government channels for verified information and to avoid sharing unconfirmed reports that could create fear or tension.

Public Advisory

The government also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity through official emergency contacts, while assuring that all security formations in the state remain on high alert.

Reiterating its position, the state government urged calm, stressing that Ogun remains peaceful, secure, and open for economic and social activities.
