Pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity.
The development was confirmed on Friday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who announced that security forces rescued the victims.
Onanuga Confirms Rescue
In a post on his 𝕏 handle, Onanuga said the abducted pupils and teachers were successfully rescued by security operatives.
“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors. The kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by Security Forces.
“One of the rescued teachers in Oyo sends a thank you message to President Tinubu and the security agencies.”
The rescue ends weeks of uncertainty following the abduction of the pupils and teachers.
Joint Security Team Rescues Abducted Couple in Oyo
In a separate operation, a joint security team comprising operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters rescued a couple abducted in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
The victims, Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were rescued unharmed after a gun battle between security operatives and the suspected kidnappers at their forest hideout.
How the Couple Was Rescued
The couple was reportedly abducted on Saturday, July 5, 2026, when about five armed men stormed Tiro Village in Irawo, fired several gunshots and took them to an undisclosed location.
According to the Oyo State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered an immediate search-and-rescue operation.
The operation involved police officers, Amotekun personnel, community vigilantes and local hunters familiar with the terrain.
