Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said the state did not record any school abduction during his first seven years in office until shortly after he declared his intention to contest the presidency.
Makinde made the remark during a meeting with Bala Mohammed and leaders of the APM in Bauchi State, while reflecting on the security situation in Oyo.
Governor recalls timing of school abduction
The governor referred to the abduction of pupils and teachers in Ahoro-Esiele Community, Oriire Local Government Area, saying the incident occurred less than a day after he announced his presidential ambition.
According to Makinde:
“For seven years as Oyo State governor, we did not witness such an incident in my state. I declared to run for the presidency at 4 p.m., and by 9 a.m. the following morning, children were abducted in Oyo State.”
No evidence presented linking both events
Makinde did not provide evidence connecting the timing of the school abduction to his declaration to seek the presidency.
However, his comments have sparked discussion about the state’s security situation and the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping.
