Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to relinquish his status as the biggest star in the Turkish Super Lig following the arrival of Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah.
Osimhen became the league’s headline attraction after joining Galatasaray on loan before completing a permanent transfer last summer. The Nigerian international has since justified the hype with a series of impressive performances that have established him as one of the league’s standout players.
However, the spotlight is now expected to shift to Salah, who is on the verge of completing a two-year move to Trabzonspor.
The former Liverpool star has already arrived in Turkey and is expected to finalise his transfer to the Black Sea club in the coming days.
Salah joins the Turkish Super Lig as a free agent after ending a successful seven-year spell at Liverpool, where he won multiple domestic and European titles while cementing his place among the club’s greatest players.
According to reports, the Egyptian forward will become the highest-paid player in the Turkish Super Lig, earning a net annual salary of €22 million, in addition to receiving 25 per cent of the revenue from jerseys sold domestically.
Beyond his football credentials, Salah also arrives as one of the world’s most influential athletes on social media, boasting more than 67 million followers on Instagram and over 19 million followers on X (formerly Twitter).
Trabzonspor will be hoping Salah’s arrival can help transform the club into genuine title contenders after finishing third behind champions Galatasaray last season.
The club has also strengthened its squad with other notable names, including former Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana and Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu.
If his registration and fitness are completed in time, Salah could make his official debut this weekend when Trabzonspor begin their Turkish Super Lig campaign against Kasımpaşa.
