Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has clarified remarks made by President Bola Tinubu concerning electricity during his recent visit to Jos.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Mutfwang explained that the issue raised by the president was limited to the runway lighting at the Jos airport, not a reflection of power supply across the state.
According to the governor, “The President said the airport runway has no light. No one can say Plateau State has no light.”
He stressed that Plateau remains connected to the national grid and also benefits from additional energy infrastructure, including the country’s first hydroelectric power station.
Mutfwang further noted that the runway lighting issue is known to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, which manages the facility, adding that discussions are ongoing to address the situation.
He revealed that the state government had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FAAN to upgrade the airport into an international cargo hub, expressing confidence that the planned improvements would resolve the current challenges.
The clarification follows Tinubu’s visit to the state amid concerns over recent killings, during which he reportedly commented on the lack of electricity at the airport.
