Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has called for a new national security framework to better protect schools following the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Sani made the call on Friday while commending the security agencies involved in securing the victims’ freedom after more than 50 days in captivity.
Sani Commends Security Agencies
In a post on his X handle, the former lawmaker praised the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their roles in the operation.
“It’s relieving to learn that the abducted Oyo pupils have been released. Kudos to the NSA Ribadu, the military, DSS, the NPF and all those whose efforts led to this success.
“As schools wind up for the summer vacation, a new national schools security framework is needed to protect students when they return.”
Abducted Pupils Regain Freedom
The call comes after abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Oyo State, regained their freedom after spending about 50 days in captivity.
The development was announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, in a post on X.
“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga wrote.
