A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has cast doubt on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of winning a second term in 2027, claiming the President is facing growing political resistance across the country.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni, Momodu argued that Tinubu no longer enjoys the level of support that propelled him to victory in the 2023 presidential election.
‘2027 Will Be a Tougher Contest’
According to the former presidential aspirant, the President must first satisfy the constitutional requirements for winning a presidential election before any discussion about overall votes.
“What he needs to win is first to do 25 per cent, which is mandatory,” Momodu said.
He noted that beyond polling the highest number of votes, a candidate must also achieve the constitutionally required geographical spread across the federation.
Claims Opposition to Tinubu Has Intensified
Momodu maintained that Tinubu would face a far more challenging political landscape in 2027, alleging that public dissatisfaction with the administration has grown significantly.
“The hatred for Tinubu is unprecedented,” he said.
He further claimed that criticism of the President was no longer limited to opposition parties but had also emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The majority of the people are opposed to him right now, including people within his own party,” he added.
Questions Northern, Southern Support
Momodu argued that Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election was largely made possible by strong backing from northern voters.
He claimed that the President no longer enjoys the same level of political support in the North and is also encountering resistance in parts of the South.
“The last time he won because he was able to do well courtesy of the support from the North. Now, he doesn’t have that support, and he doesn’t have it in the South,” he said.
Predicts Another Challenge in Osun
The ADC chieftain also predicted that Tinubu could again face difficulty securing support in Osun State, which he described as the President’s ancestral home.
“Osun State, where he comes from, his ancestral home, rejected him last time, and I know they will reject him again,” Momodu said.
Momodu’s comments reflect the opposition’s assessment of the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election. However, they remain his personal political opinion and projections, not established facts about future electoral outcomes.
